January - Framingham District Court - Client arrested at approximately 3 in the morning after police observe his driving completely on the wrong side of the road. Police observe empty quart bottle of rum in back seat of client's car together with a bottle of coke allegedly smelling of alcohol. Client fails alphabet test but does well on physical field sobriety tests, all being recorded on police video. Attorney Doran presents evidence of effects of numerous concussions client suffered while playing high school football though medical records and testimony of client's mother. Client found not guilty after one day jury trial.

December- West Roxbury District Court- Client received notice of a claim against her automobile insurance as a result of an alleged accident. Client is a teacher in a Boston public charter school and holds two degrees from Harvard University. Client then receives a citation for leaving the scene of an accident from the court. At Magistrates hearing complaint issues despite no evidence of client's identity as the driver of the vehicle in the accident. Attorney Doran files a pre-arraignment Motion to Dismiss based on the insufficiency of the evidence. Motion allowed. Moreover, the judge struck any entry on client's board of probation record.

December- Framingham District Court- Client arrested for selling marijuana within 100 feet of a public park, a mandatory 1 year incarceration sentence. Police observed client with 14 individually packaged bags of marijuana. Attorney Doran files Motion to Suppress based on the illegality of the search. This motion was denied. Case marked for trial. Attorney Doran files motion to exclude testimony of police officers' identifying substance as marijuana. Judge indicates his tendency to allow motion but gives parties opportunity to resolve case. Client accepts plea to a possession charge. Case continued without a finding for one year with no probationary conditions.

November - Framingham District Court- Client arrested for and later charged with attempted murder after his wife called police frantically claiming she had been choked. Police arrive and see wife's injuries which do not include any marks around her neck. Client's arraignment achieved significant news coverage, with client picture on the front page of the Middlesex News.
Attorney Doran appears in Framingham District Court and arranges for an attorney to appear on wife's behalf. Wife, with counsel, elects to assert her marital privilege not to testify in the case. Case dismissed at second pretrial conference.

October - Framingham District Court - Client arrested after a traffic stop resulting in the discovery of a quarter pound of marijuana and a residual amount of heroin on a spoon under his driver's seat. Client charged with distribution of marijuana and possession of heroin. Attorney Doran first files a motion to suppress, which was denied. Case marked for trial. Attorney Doran moves to dismiss distribution count due to the lack of expert testimony refuting the defendant's potential personal use of the marijuana. This motion was allowed. At jury trial defendant testifies he did not know the heroin was in his truck. Attorney Doran argues the police failed to perform certain tests, i.e. fingerprint analysis, establishing a reasonable doubt as to the validity of the charges. Not guilty after jury trial.

September- Somerville District Court- Client stopped and then issued a citation for operating on a suspended motor vehicle license, the suspension resulting from a conviction for OUI. The offense carries a mandatory 60 day sentence. Client had previously been charged and convicted of the same offense. Attorney Doran brings motion to suppress all evidence based on an illegal stop. The State Trooper allegedly observed client's car parked in a "no live parking zone" but did not pull over client for some 5 minutes. In light of the strength of the motion, client offered a probationary sentence with no jail time or other restriction on his freedom. Client accepts offer and is sentenced to 1 year term of probation.

September- Framingham District Court- Client charged with two restraining order violations, one involving indirect communication to the protected party and the other a violation of the no contact provision of the order. Attorney Doran moves the cases be consolidated for trial. Attorney Doran points out inconsistencies of the mother of the protected party, the person through whom it was alleged the client made contact. Attorney Doran emphasizes the bias of the complaining witness, noting the fact the complaining witness had been upset when another boyfriend had discovered her relationship with client. After a 1 day jury trial, client is found not guilty of all charges.

August- Worcester District Court- Client arrested after fleeing from scene of house break. Police observed indices of an attempted breaking and entering. Residents of the area describe client and the car in which he was driving. Client charged with 5 felonies. Attorney Doran presents evidence of codefendant's confession, not contained in the report of police investigation, to the District Attorney's office. All charges dismissed on the second court date.

July- Worcester District Court- Client charged with OUI after leaving a roadside eatery from which police were told of client's intoxicated state. Call to police said client was wobbly on feet and incoherent before he got behind the wheel of his truck. As this was client's second offense he faced a lifetime loss of his class A license. Client pulled over shortly after leaving eatery and failed 3 field sobriety tests and then blew a .25 reading on the breath test. Attorney Doran first brings a motion to suppress the stop of the defendant based on insufficient probable cause. This motion was denied. Attorney Doran next brings motion to suppress breath test based on the failure of police to observe client for 15 minutes prior to administration of the test. This motion was allowed. Case marked for trial. Attorney Doran presents medical evidence establishing client's deafness and inner ear injury dating back to 1981. Not guilty after trial in the Worcester Court jury session.

June- District Court- Client, a local financial executive's wife, charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon after she allegedly kicked a restaurant manager. Client arrived at restaurant with her five children and husband late on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was essentially out of food and client began taping the manager's response to some of her probing questions. Manager then attempted to seize Client's phone at which point he was allegedly kicked. Attorney Doran alerts police officials to contents of tape, admissible because it was not secretly recorded. Attorney Doran also presents testimony detailing client's prodigious charitable efforts. All charges dismissed at Clerk Magistrate's hearing.

May- Framingham District Court- Client charged with harassment order violation after he sent an email to former girlfriend. Attorney Doran challenges the forensic accuracy of IP address linking email address to client. All charges dismissed on trial date. Motion to seal client' record subsequently allowed.

May- Framingham District Court- Client, a local accountant, charged with OUI second offense after traffic stop for speeding. Client weighed over 300 pounds at time of arrest. Case called for trial in early May and no prosecution witnesses appeared. Case continued over objection of Attorney Doran to a date 8 days later. At second trial date no prosecution witnesses appeared. Attorney Doran offers Motion to Dismiss. Motion allowed. Client' license immediately restored after motion to the court.

April- Westboro District Court- Client charged with harassment of person of opposite sex after he propositioned employee of hotel at which he was staying. Client allegedly requested a "quickie" and tried to grab employee. Attorney Doran composes Motion to Dismiss based on the insufficiency of evidence presented to the Clerk Magistrate. There was no evidence of any unruly behavior or physical threat. Motion allowed. All charges dismissed. Attorney Doran then successfully petitioned the court to have client's record sealed.

April- Framingham and Milford - client charged with over ten motor vehicle infractions after leading state police on a multiple jurisdiction car chase. Client allegedly hit another car on route 495, left the scene of that accident, and eventually crashed his car into a tree in Upton. Attorney Doran presents mitigating evidence of client's recent family problems. Client's sister had recently been horrifically killed in Kenya. All charges dismissed in Milford. As some of client's offenses also took place in Framingham jurisdiction, a Clerk's hearing was mandated. All charges also dismissed in Framingham after hearing.

April- Marlboro District Court- In 1997 client admitted to participating in a scheme to steal from his employer, receiving a continuance without a finding as a disposition from the court. Client now is a bank executive working at a national financial firm. Client hires Attorney Doran to seal his record. The 15 year felony period for sealing a conviction has not expired. Nonetheless, Attorney Doran convinces court to allow a petition to seal record, stressing one-time nature of offense and client's community involvement since the time of his arrest.

March- Plymouth District Court- Client originally charged with restraining order violation but them continues to call girlfriend no less than 15 times after being arrested, causing bail on first case to be revoked. Case called for trial at which time Attorney Doran produces evidence, such as hotel receipts, of complaining witness' contact with client. Client accepts offer of a sentence limited to time already served. Client released from custody.


March- Middlesex Superior Court- Client sentenced on a probation violation in August 2010 to 30 months in the house of correction. Client's family approaches Attorney Doran to explore possibility of getting her released due to her being stricken with breast cancer. Attorney Doran presents evidence of client's disease to the court and alerts the court client received a sentence beyond the 24 month maximum penalty for the crime charged. Sentence vacated. Client released on date of hearing.

March- Quincy District Court- Client arrested for sexual battery after allegedly grabbing crotch of complaining witness. Case eventually marked for trial. Attorney Doran prepares motion to exclude "first complaint" testimony. Client accepts offer of reduced charge of simple assault, meaning no sex offender registration.

March- Plymouth District Court- Client on probation for an computer related crime for which client received a continuance without a finding in 2007. Client arrested in Marlboro after he admitted to slashing radiator hose of ex-girlfriend's car. At violation of probation hearing probation officer requested a revocation of his probation plus one year in the house of correction. Attorney Doran presents evidence of client's compliance with all other terms of probation. Court finds a violation of probation and continues probation to original date, with no guilty finding entered. Client need not register as sex offender, even in light of his violation of probation.

February- Fitchburg District Court- Client arrested for assault and battery on his wife after she claimed she was beaten severely. Wife later disclaims statement and asserts her marital privilege not to testify against her husband. Case dismissed after attorney Doran files motion to exclude statement of wife.

February- Framingham District Court- Client charged with OUI, third offense, after police observed his driving without headlights and swerving over center line. Client unable to perform three field sobriety tests and displayed slurred speech. Attorney Doran presents evidence of client's past treatment for speech impediments as well as testimony from bar manager who opined client was sober. Not guilty after trial.

February- Fitchburg District Court- Client charged with OUI after police observed her 40 feet from site of car crashed through a fence. Client allegedly stated she was the operator of the vehicle before she was taken to hospital where a blood test revealed her having an alcohol level of .26 percent. Attorney Doran brings motion to exclude admission of client's statement based on the issue of its involuntary nature due to extreme alcohol intoxication. Motion allowed. All charges dismissed. Client's license reinstated.

January- Fitchburg District Court- Client charged with sexual assault on his wife along with 2 distinct allegations of domestic battery. Attorney Doran files motion to exclude wife's prior statement to police. All charges dismissed on trial date.

December- Framingham District Court- Client, an immigrant from India, charged with shoplifting after store security observed her taking over 200 dollars worth of merchandise through exit door. Attorney Doran presents evidence of client's psychiatric condition. Case dismissed at Magistrate's hearing.

December- Framingham District Court- Client arrested for assault and battery after neighbor calls police allegedly having heard client strike his girlfriend. Attorney Doran files motion to exclude girlfriend's prior statement to police. Motion allowed. Case dismissed on date of trial.

November- Milford District Court- Client, a local business owner, arrested outside post office after allegedly attempting to pick up mailed package containing over 100 oxycontin pills. Attorney Doran brings motion to compel prosecution to produce all identification procedures. After weakness in case exposed, prosecution offers defendant a continuance without a finding after previously insisting on incarceration. Attorney Doran demands prosecutors agree to unsupervised probation with no drug screens. Client accepts offer and receives a continuance without a finding with unsupervised probation for one year.

November- Lowell District Court- Client arrested for Assault with Intent to Murder after police observe his girlfriend with choking injuries to her neck. Police take pictures irrefutably establishing the severity of her injuries. Early in case client reconciles with girlfriend. Because the alleged assault occurred after girlfriend entered client's residence, Attorney Doran suggests she seek counsel for purpose of invoking her 5th Amendment rights. Attorney Doran files motion to exclude girlfriend's prior statement to police. Case dismissed on date of trial.

October- Boston Municipal Court Dorchester- Client arrested for OUI after police observe his driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. Police testify client' car launched 5 feet in air after cutting off traffic. Attorney Doran presents evidence the stop was based on recent gang activity in neighborhood. Not guilty after jury trial.

October- Marlboro District Court- Client charged with failure to register as a sex offender as a result of letter to police from his ex-girlfriend. Attorney Doran presents evidence client registered as a homeless person at his place of work. All charges dismissed after hearing.

October- Natick District Court- Client charged with operating to endanger after car accident in which her mother was severely injured. Attorney Doran presents motion to remand to a clerk's hearing. Motion allowed. Case dismissed at clerk's hearing.

October-Framingham District Court- Client, a wife of a soldier serving in Iraq, arrested at the store at which she was employed for theft. Attorney Doran presents evidence of her clinical depression at clerk's hearing. Case dismissed.

October- Framingham District Court- Client charged with assault and battery on her husband as a result of domestic dispute. Attorney Doran presents motion to dismiss based on an accord and satisfaction. Motion allowed. Case dismissed.

September - Framingham District Court - Client passed out behind the wheel of her car close to six o'clock in the morning. Client submits to a number of field sobriety tests that she allegedly failed. Attorney Doran presents evidence of the flawed nature of the test conditions, i.e. there was two inches of snow on ground. Not guilty after jury waived trial.

September - East Brookfield District Court - Client charged as a multiple offender after she was observed driving with no head lights and allegedly committing numerous marked lanes violations. Attorney Doran produces medical evidence suggesting the absolute inability of her being able to pass any type of field sobriety test. Not guilty after jury waived trial.

September - Gloucester District Court - Client caused car crash in which several individuals were injured. Police apply for a complaint of DUI along with other motor vehicle infractions. Client admitted to consumption of 4 beers. Attorney Doran convinces court to issue only charge of negligent operation. Client admits to negligent operation with case continued without a finding for 1 year. No loss of license.

September - Marlboro District Court - Client charged with assault and battery after knocking out the tooth of an individual in a road rage incident. District Attorney's office asks court for enhanced charge. Attorney Doran successfully argues the charge should remain as is. Client eventually pleads to straight probation without any jail sentence.

August- Westboro District Court- Client calls Attorney Doran in first week of month. Attorney Doran recognizes immediately the weakness of he prosecution's case and then requests a trial date in three weeks. Client blew a breath sample with a reading of .09 percent of blood alcohol content. Not guilty after a jury waived trial. Client's license immediately restored.

August- Somerville District Court- Client charged with assault and battery on his roommate who received moderately serious injuries. Attorney Doran begins process of constructing a defense based claim of self defense. Complaining witness almost instantly loses interest in case. Case dismissed at pre-trial conference

July- Dedham District Court- College student charged with receiving stolen property, allegedly 500 bus tickets from the student union worth close to 1500 dollars. College conducts hearing at student disciplinary panel at which client was found in violation of student code. Clerk Magistrate dismisses all charges after attorney Doran presents proof the client could not possibly have known the tickets were stolen.

July- Wrentham Distinct Court- Client charged with domestic assault and battery after police respond to 911 call and observe moderately severe injuries to his wife. All charges dismissed.

July- Wrentham Distinct Court- Client charged with operating after suspension of his license while on probation for a drunk driving offense and with an open domestic assault and battery case. All charges dismissed after attorney Doran presents evidence the police mailed notice of a Clerk Magistrate's hearing to the wrong address. All probation violations dismissed as well.

June- Framingham District Court- Client pulled over for speeding 45 mph in a 30 mph zone. Police then seize in plain view over 1 pound of marijuana. Attorney Doran composes a video demonstrating the police testimony related to the stop was not credible. Motion to Suppress allowed. Case to be dismissed.

June- Atttleboro District Court- Client charged with Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana after police observe his purchasing the narcotic. Attorney Doran brings motion to dismiss based on recently enacted voter initiative decriminalizing possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. Motion allowed. All charges dismissed.

June- Natick District Court- Lawyer charged with providing alcohol to minor friend of his son. Attorney Doran convinces magistrate to drop all charges.

June- Middlesex Superior Court- Client charged with cocaine distribution after police seize cocaine and client admits to selling cocaine for over two years. Attorney Doran prevails on prosecutors to reduce charges from the minimum mandatory provisions of the statute. Client receives probation with home confinement for 1 year. Client is able to keep his job.

June- Malden District Court- Client charged with operating under the influence of liquor after being pulled over on 128. Client "reeked" of marijuana as well as alcohol. Client allegedly failed 2 field sobriety tests after admitting consuming 4 beers and smoking marijuana all night long. Not guilty of all charges after trial.

May- Marlboro District Court-Client charged with aggravated assault and battery after bar fight in which numerous neutral witnesses observe client kicking victim in head repeatedly inflicting life threatening injury. Attorney Doran prepares case for trial based on a self defense theory. Prosecutors eventually offer client straight probation.

May- Westboro District Court- Client charged wih domestic assault after police respond to frantic call from his house. Client had two guns in house, one allegedly improperly stored. Attorney Doran presents evidience of client's post traumatic strees syndrome. All charges dsimissed after hearing.

May- Wrentam District Court- Client chareged with breaking and entering her former home, now the property of the foreclosing bank. Attorney Doran presents courrt evidence of flaws in foreclosure process which suggest the bank did not own the home. All charges dismissed.
